Where to Start with CBD
How CBD Works
CBD is a powerful compound that millions of people swear by worldwide, but it can be an overwhelming topic to research. You can find it practically everywhere, from gas stations and convenience stores to grocery chains and hair salons. But is it really all just the same?
We totally understand being confounded, confused, and concerned just looking for the right answers to your CBD questions, and so we're here and happy to help provide you with some guidance. By the end of this article, you should be able to get started with exploring CBD more in-depth and experience the potential positive effects it can have on your life!
Different Types of CBD
You may have seen different ways to describe or classify CBD as you look into it and wondered, what do the terms "full spectrum", "pure", or any of the many other phrases you may have come across mean? Let's start by looking at pure CBD extract followed by its full spectrum counterpart.
Pure CBD
All CBD products are extracted from the Cannabis Sativa hemp plant. Pure CBD is cannabidiol that has been refined by removing all of the THC, plant fats, terpenes, and flavonoids that give the plant its various aromas and tastes. By refining cannabis into just CBD, the end result is a term you may have seen called an "Isolate".
CBD Isolate should be at least 99% pure CBD and nothing less, which ultimately gives you a potent, concentrated dose and, in theory, a higher concentration of potential benefits.
Full Spectrum CBD
When a product is called "full spectrum", it means that everything that was extracted from the plant has been left to remain in the product you're using. This includes the CBD, CBN, CBG, plant fats, terpenes, flavonoids, and everything else that makes up the chemical structure of the hemp plant. It also means that a very small amount of THC may be present, 0.3% which is the maximum amount the FDA will allow in consumer products.
Many people believe that all these cannabinoids work best when they are kept together in their natural state. The term that is used to describe their synergy has been coined as the "Entourage Effect".
How To Take CBD
Depending on why you're taking CBD, there's always going to be a preferred and potentially better way of taking it. There are basically two ways to take CBD, topically and internally.
One note, your CBD product packaging should always tell you how many milligrams are in it. There are many products out there that say that they contain "hemp oil" or "CBD" but may not show how many milligrams are in them. Always know how much you're taking so you can dial in your most preferred dosing amounts.
It also is important to know just exactly what is in your CBD products. We here at Fully Activated have all of our products tested by third-party labs for purity and potency, and the results are typically available on each of our product pages.
Topical vs Internal
Topical CBD
For the direct application to a very specific area, like the skin, hair, muscles, and joints, topical applications are a great choice. Topicals will consist of CBD extract in a soothing, all-natural balm or salve that sticks to and penetrates the area you put it on. While using CBD topicals is great for anything that is skin-deep or subcutaneous, if you want the full-body effects of CBD, then taking it internally is the way to go.
Internal CBD
Originally the most common method of administering a CBD extract and the usual starting point for most first-time users, oils are and still remain extremely popular. Some people simply administer their preferred dose of CBD oil sublingually (under the tongue), and allow it to sit for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. Other internal methods include ingesting an isolate or inhalation via a vaping or dabbing instrument.

You can use the dropper that comes with our CBD oil tinctures to measure your preferred dosage in your favorite foods, drinks, or anything else that is ingestible. Or you can just simply take it directly under your tongue.
Capsules
